The NUMINOUS NUMBER 12: it's relationship to TIME, DIVINITY, and ... my RATES)
12 is a puissant number in the realm of numerology. It represents totality and culmination. Think 12 months in the year, 12 primary acupuncture meridians, 12 signs in the zodiac, etc. By navigating our way through all 12 phases we are gifted a more expansive and inclusive perspective, and a deeper understanding of who we are and how the world operates.
Often, it is only once we reach the end of a given cycle that we truly begin to master and accept the journey. This comprehensive awareness and sense of fulfillment is the energy held by the number 12.
The number 12 is made up of two numbers, 1 and 2. The number 1 signifies the beginning and the singular nature of the universe. It represents completion, harmony, inspiration, perfection, accomplishment and autonomy. On the contrary, 2 is all about negotiation, equity, partnership and the mercurial nature of life. The synthesis of 1+2 = 3. The number 3 calls on us to remember our innate DIVINITY (i.e., we are spiritual beings having a human experience). Fun fact: I was born on 3/3 and am currently in my 33rd spin round the sun!
Through the lens of Sacred Sonic Geometry, we are apt to celebrate and esteem the numbers 12, 60, & 432. In Sonic Geometry and the 12/60 math system of ancient Mesopotamia "we find an explanation of how frequency reveals mechanical movements found throughout the universe, how certain harmonics contain keys and codes to unlock the very process of creation, and a revelation of the very matrix of existence."
This system is so functional that it remains pertinent and operational (albeit modified) today (despite the fact that most modern societies use the base-10, or the decimal, system of Hindu-Arabic numerals). For instance, whenever people tell time or make reference to the degrees of a circle, they are relying on the base 60 system. This stuff goes crazy deep and you will probs want to boost your brain with some Lion's Mane (find it in my Bright Mind protocol) before diving into the rabbit hole...
A (limited) list of significant 12's beginning with my current favorite:
• The base 12 (duodecimal) system likely emerged out of an alternative method of counting (common throughout Asia) whereby, rather than counting the five digits on each hand (for a max of 10), the thumb is used as a pointer, touching all 3 pads of the four long fingers on the right hand, beginning with the pinkie (4x3=12). When the count reaches 12, a digit on the left hand is lowered to mark the place — tallying 60 once all five fingers on the left are tucked into a fist… And sixty, as it turns out, “is eminently divisible — in mathematics, it is considered a ‘highly composite number’ because it has more divisors than any smaller positive integer.” Go on, you know you want to try it!
• 12 primary acupuncture meridians
• 12 zodiac signs and houses
• 12 months in a year
• 12 hrs of day / 12 hrs of night
• 12 inches in a foot
• 12 tribes of Israel
• 12 apostles
• 12 Olympians (gods) in Greek Mythology
• 4 Noble Truths + 8 Fold Path of Buddhism = 12
• Annnd aside from being my lifelong favorite number, 12 is especially significant to me since it belongs to the zodiac sign Pisces, which is my Sun sign! So, henceforth, you shall see this number playing a central role in my practice wherever pertinent (i.e., in setting my rates)…
Bonus: A Meditation on 12
1) Find a comfortable meditative position, perhaps sitting upright with legs crossed or lying on your back on a cozy surface
2) Close your eyes and begin to shift your focus to your breath.
3) Take 12 slow deep breaths to arrive in this moment and calm your nervous system.
4) Begin to imagine that a radiant light is surrounding the top half of your body (bellybutton up) in the shape of a magnificent pyramid. Visualize the pyramid extending upwards into the heavens, establishing an energetic connection between you and Source energy.
5) Keeping that visual strong, now imagine the lower half of your body immersed in another pyramid of light, this time directed down into the core of mother earth, connecting you with this place we call Home.
6) With your whole being saturated in this light, take another 12 breaths, intensifying the profound awareness and embodied knowing of your connection to heaven and earth.
7) Visualize the top pyramid slowing beginning to spin in a clockwise direction and the bottom pyramid slowly beginning to spin in a counter-clockwise direction.
8) Be aware of any emotions that surface and any sensations that arise in your body. Stay with this experience for another 12-24 breaths.
9) As you feel ready, bring the pyramids into stillness again and imagine the light condensing inward into your body until you have fully absorbed it.
10) Take 12 deep breaths here as you come back into your body in the here and now.
11) Slowly begin to wiggle your fingers and toes, and blink your eyes open.
12) When you feel ready, take some deeper stretches, stand up, and shake it out. Enjoy the rest of your day infused with the light you have cultivated during this meditation!
